Nha Trang is a beach town, not a lantern town, and it is worth saying plainly: you will not find a dedicated silk-lantern quarter here the way you would in Hoi An. That is not a knock on the city — it just means the shopping plan for lanterns looks a little different from your night at the beach bar.
The workaround is simple. We hand-make traditional bamboo-and-silk lanterns further up the coast and ship them to Nha Trang resorts, villas and hotels, usually landing the next day. No hunting the night market for something that turns out to be printed plastic.
Nha Trang draws a genuinely international beach crowd — a long-running holiday spot for Russian and South Korean travellers in particular, alongside domestic tourists from Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi escaping for a weekend. Resort décor here tends to skew toward whatever reads well in a beach photo, and a warm silk lantern against blue water does that job better than most hotel-supplied lighting.
A resort coast built around the beach, not a craft trade.
Nha Trang grew around its coastline — diving, island-hopping, seafood, the long curve of beach that draws international travellers, popular in particular with holidaymakers from Russia and South Korea. What it did not grow is a bamboo-and-silk lantern craft; that trade belongs to towns further north with generations of workshops behind it.
You will still spot decorative lighting around Nha Trang night market — string lights, paper lanterns for festival displays, the odd souvenir stall. Fine for a photo, not the handmade collapsible kind serious lantern buyers are after.
Salt air is the other reason it makes sense to order rather than buy whatever is on a beachfront stall shelf. Cheap printed lanterns made from thin synthetic fabric fade and stiffen fast in coastal humidity and direct sun; the bamboo-and-silk construction handles both far better, since the frame is designed to be handled and folded repeatedly without cracking.
Worth visiting — just not for this particular souvenir.
A solid stop for street food, cheap clothing, and general beach-town souvenirs. Go for the atmosphere and the seafood stalls, not expecting a lantern specialist among the vendors.
The Cham towers are one of the city's genuine cultural sights, worth an hour if you want something other than the beach. It is a historic temple complex, not a shopping stop — no lanterns sold on-site, and none should be expected there.
The islands offshore — Hon Mun and Hon Tre among them — round out most itineraries with diving and snorkelling day trips, and the vast majority of Nha Trang's resort strip along Tran Phu Street faces directly onto the beach. None of it changes the lantern-buying answer, but it explains why so much of what is sold along the front is aimed at day-trippers rather than anyone furnishing a room.

The umbrella shape runs 140,000 at 30 cm, 160,000 at 35 cm, 180,000 at 40 cm, 210,000 at 45 cm and 320,000 at 60 cm. Hand-painted pieces run 160,000 at 30 cm, 220,000 at 35 cm, 240,000 at 40 cm, 300,000 at 45 cm, 500,000 at 60 cm and up to 1,800,000 for a full metre.

Coastal spaces run bigger than an Old Quarter hotel room — size up accordingly.
Resort rooms and villas along this coast tend to have more open-air space than an inland city hotel — a balcony rail, a terrace table, sometimes a private pool deck. That gives you room to go a size or two larger than you would in a cramped city room. A 40–45 cm disc or umbrella shape reads well against sea air and open sky, and a 60 cm piece over a terrace table or beach-bar corner has real presence after dark.

Prices run from 30,000 VND for a small 10 cm piece up to 900,000 VND for a full metre in plain silk; disc, umbrella and hand-painted styles cost a bit more, up to 1,800,000 VND at the largest hand-painted size — a reasonable spend either way for a beach-holiday souvenir. Because the traditional design folds flat, it slides into a suitcase alongside beachwear instead of taking up its own bag.

A single lantern reads differently from a matched row along a pool deck.
Guests furnishing a rented villa, or a resort ordering for a whole terrace, are not really working with the same one-lantern brief as a solo traveller. A row of matching lanterns along a pool deck or beach-bar counter reads as considered lighting design rather than a single souvenir left hanging.

Is there a silk lantern shop in Nha Trang?
Not a dedicated one. Nha Trang is a beach and resort city rather than a lantern-craft town. We do not have a shop there — we deliver handmade lanterns to hotels and villas instead.
Can I buy real Vietnamese lanterns near the Nha Trang night market?
