We are LongDenViet — a lantern factory and showroom based in Ho Chi Minh City, with our workshop in Hoi An Ancient Town. We craft 500+ styles of handmade lanterns: silk, bamboo, rattan, wood and custom fabric — for retail customers, hotels, resorts, restaurants and wholesale buyers across Vietnam and abroad.
Every lantern leaves our hands, not a machine. That is the LongDenViet promise.
LongDenViet was founded in 2016 by a family with deep roots in Hoi An's lantern-making tradition. What started as a small workshop supplying local shops has grown into one of Vietnam's largest lantern factories — but we have never forgotten our craft origins.
Hoi An is a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its hundreds of colourful silk lanterns. The lantern-making craft here is passed down through families, not taught in schools. Our craftsmen split bamboo by hand, stretch silk over frames with practiced precision, and tie each joint with the same techniques their grandparents used.
Today, our lanterns hang in hotels, resorts and restaurants across Vietnam and have been delivered to customers in over 10 countries via international couriers. We remain a family business — and every lantern we make carries that personal commitment to quality.

Factory direct — silk, bamboo, rattan, wood and custom fabric.

Everything visitors and buyers ask us — which type to choose, what a fair price is, where to buy, how they're made and how to get one home. Written by the people who make them.
Vietnam makes far more than the famous silk lantern. Here is the quick map, with typical factory-direct prices.
| Lantern type | Best for | Price each | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hoi An silk lanterns | The classic souvenir & event décor | $2–40 | View → |
| Bamboo & rattan | Rustic, boho & eco-resort interiors | $6–15 | View → |
| Japanese-style | Restaurants, tea houses, zen spaces | $4–50 | View → |
| Hand-painted art | Collectible gifts & feature pieces | $30–80 | View → |
| Hanging / ceiling | Hotel lobbies & big installations | $30–100 | View → |
| Carved wood | Premium executive gifts | $2–8 | View → |
| Mid-Autumn festival | Schools, events, bulk export | under $2 | View → |
| Custom fabric (your logo) | Hotels, weddings, corporate | Quote | View → |
Approximate factory-direct prices in USD (converted from VND), before international shipping. For reference: tourist shops in Hoi An and Saigon typically charge 2–4× these prices for the same lantern.
Wholesale orders reduce these further (see volume pricing below). Custom orders with your logo, colour or size are quoted individually. Mid-Autumn festival lanterns bought in bulk are under USD 2 each.
The night markets are beautiful and worth seeing. But if you want fair prices, real choice and a lantern packed to survive the trip home, buying from the maker wins. Read our local guides to buying lanterns in Hoi An and in Ho Chi Minh City.
Magical at night, lanterns everywhere. But shops are tourist-priced and bargaining is expected. Best for one or two small keepsakes.
District 5's Lương Nhữ Học street is colourful around festivals. Mostly festival & paper lanterns, seasonal stock, retail prices.
We make them. Showroom + warehouse in Ho Chi Minh City, workshop in Hoi An. Factory pricing, 300+ styles, packed for travel, worldwide courier.
Buying from us is not like grabbing a lantern off a market stall. You get personal service, an honest price, and your purchase packed properly for the journey home — whether it goes in your bag or across the world.
Escape the Saigon heat and the crowded markets. Browse hundreds of lanterns in comfort, take your time, no pressure.
A dedicated assistant stays with you. Every lantern has a clear marked price — no haggling, no tourist markup, no surprises.
We make these ourselves. Tell us your space, occasion or budget and we will help you choose the right size, colour and fabric.
We fold each lantern flat, wrap it in a protective sleeve and pad the corners — ready to drop straight into your suitcase.
We tell you honestly what fits in carry-on, what to check in, and what is better shipped — so nothing arrives crushed.
For larger orders we pack into proper double-wall export cartons with foam inserts — the correct standard for DHL & FedEx abroad.
Every lantern is shaped, tied and wrapped entirely by hand. This is why each one is slightly unique — and why it can fold flat.
Mature bamboo is split by hand into thin, even ribs, then soaked and bent over a mould to form the lantern's frame.
Each rib is lashed to the rings with cotton thread at the crossing points — no glue, no staples on the frame. This is what lets the lantern fold flat.
Silk or organza is cut to the panel shape, brushed with glue and stretched drum-tight over each section so there are no wrinkles when lit.
Trims, tassels and the top/bottom caps go on, the fabric is checked for even tension, and the lantern is folded and sleeved for the journey.
In Vietnamese tradition, lantern colour carries meaning — most vivid during the monthly Hoi An Lantern Festival. See our full guide to colours and shapes, then choose by the wish you want to send.
A 10-second check before you pay — in a market or from any supplier.
The single most common worry — “how do I get this home?” — has an easy answer. Traditional Hoi An lanterns collapse: squeeze the bamboo frame and it folds to a few centimetres thick, weighing under 200 grams. It slips into a suitcase and pops back into shape at home.
We fold and sleeve every lantern for travel free of charge. Can't carry it — or buying wooden, ceramic or large pieces that don't fold? We ship worldwide by DHL and FedEx with full tracking from our Ho Chi Minh City warehouse.
Read the full packing & shipping guideBuying a larger order or anything that needs to travel as cargo? We pack it the right way — not a flimsy market bag. Your lanterns go into double-wall corrugated cartons with foam corner inserts, the international standard that DHL and FedEx expect.

Yes. Every lantern sold by LongDenViet is handmade using traditional Hoi An techniques — split bamboo frames tied by hand, silk or organza fabric stretched and secured without machinery. Our craftsmen are from families who have been making lanterns in Hoi An for 2–3 generations. We do not sell machine-made or imported lanterns.

All our lanterns are designed for indoor decorative use with LED bulbs (not open flame). The fabric is treated for light fire resistance. We include LED bulb adapters with international plug standards (EU, US, UK, AU) in wholesale orders upon request. For outdoor use, we recommend our weather-treated rattan and bamboo styles.
Yes. WhatsApp us and we'll send our full digital catalog (PDF, 80+ pages) with all styles, sizes, colors and wholesale pricing. We also have a video lookbook showing lanterns installed in real hotel and restaurant projects.
Buying factory direct, a small silk souvenir lantern (25–35cm) is roughly USD 2–6, a medium silk lantern (40–60cm) USD 6–15, and a large statement piece (70cm+) USD 15–40. Hand-woven bamboo and rattan lanterns run USD 6–15. Hand-painted art lanterns and big hanging/ceiling installations are USD 30–100 each. Mid-Autumn festival lanterns sold in bulk are under USD 2 each. These are approximate factory-direct prices in USD (converted from VND) before international shipping — tourist shops in Hoi An and Saigon typically charge 2–4× more for the same lantern.
Both have charm, but prices in the tourist areas of Hoi An Ancient Town and Saigon's lantern street are marked up heavily and bargaining is expected. We are the actual maker — our main showroom and warehouse is in Ho Chi Minh City (Tan Phu District, easy to reach by taxi/Grab) with our original workshop in Hoi An. You get factory-direct pricing, a far larger selection (300+ styles on display), proper packing for travel, and we can ship anything you can't carry. If you only have time for the markets, buy small; for anything larger or in quantity, come to us or order remotely.
Traditionally yes — the premium ones are wrapped in real silk, which has a soft sheen and rich colour saturation. Many lanterns sold cheaply in markets actually use fine polyester organza, which is more durable, fade-resistant and lighter for travel, but is not true silk. We offer both and we tell you exactly which fabric each lantern uses. If real silk matters to you, just ask — we'll point you to the genuine silk range.
Yes — this surprises most visitors. Traditional Hoi An lanterns are collapsible: you squeeze the bamboo frame and it folds flat to a few centimetres thick, weighing under 200g. A folded lantern slips into a suitcase or backpack and pops back into shape at home. We fold and wrap each one in protective sleeves for travel at no charge. For wooden, ceramic or very large pieces that don't fold, we arrange courier shipping by DHL or FedEx.
A standard silk lantern takes a craftsperson roughly 2–4 hours of hand work: splitting and bending the bamboo frame, tying every joint by hand, then stretching and gluing the fabric without a single machine stitch. Hand-painted and carved wooden lanterns take considerably longer. We keep thousands of finished lanterns in stock for immediate purchase; fully custom orders (your colour, size, logo) take 5–10 business days to produce.
